I think Finnish people are very kind and friendly but even thought Finns are different from other people in other countries. I mean that with with”they are diffrent” , Finnish people are so quiet, cold and shy. However not everyone is the same, but most of them are as I described.
Forexample in the school they dont speak so much they are so so quiet and they go to corner, in the lession when teacher force to speak then finns student comes to speak more, in the other wise they are so quiet and shy.
Finns are very shy and they have what noone on other countrys in europe have…, a fare of talking. They think if you talk to other people its embarassing. Thats why finns must drink a couple drinks… at least, after that they will talk to you. Anyway, I can say Finland is one of the strangest country in the world.

Article Summary
Finnish Cuisine by Mona.
- Finnish cuisine has been talked down badly lately in the media alongside with the English cuisine.
- It is just that these dishes are well known around the world and people are more accustomed to them.
- Finnish food is not merely smoked reindeer-meat and cloudberries.
- The Finnish cuisine at least has different seasons with different foods accordingly.
- Leave the Finns their food and when here if you do not dare to try something different, then you are welcome to have your everyday tomato-sauce on bread yourself.
- One more thing about Finnish traditional cuisine, at least you get full on what you are served on the plate and do not have to wear your reading spectacles on to see what is on your plate.
- Unless if you are on a reduced calorie-diet, then I guess just seeing some food, no matter what food, just any food, will do. And the less the better! 😉

。。we chinese love Finland so much~~
in my imagination,
it’s a dreamland cold, quiet and pure ,few people
so different from China of course O(∩_∩)O哈哈~
Compared to China Finland must seem exotic… So does China, to us! Come and visit sometime!
I enjoyed 3 months of winter in Helsinki, and miss it severely!
I miss: the hassu hullu Karelians
the Nokia clutching black clad Finns flowing down Alexanderinkatu into the shops.
the beautiful trams silently whisking through the evening snowfall
the free Kantele concerts at the Sibelius academy – priceless!
the tasty cheeses
the gypsy woman who sang to me on the tram one evening.
the genius Finn’s have for ‘sending-up’ themselves – such fun.
the flea market in Helsinki on sundays
the skating rink in downtown Helsinki which is almost always nearly empty of skaters and open late at night – magical.
the wonderful bathing-suit free swimming pools and most of all the hot and steamy saunas at the swim pools which are simply the best in the world.
Do not take your treasures for granted people of Finland. I miss you and would love to live there if I could.
Thanks Vanessa! Your comment is like a poem, I’m glad Finland inspired you. Come back some day, she will be waiting for you.
Right now it’s about -20C and we’re freezing out butts off here but it looks beautiful. 🙂

I just moved back to Finland after living in England for 5 years. I moved back because I thought things would be easier when having a baby; you know better health care and education etc. Boy, was I wrong. I’ve now been here for 4 weeks and regret the move soooo much. I didn’t remember Finnish people are so rude. They don’t smile, they don’t say hello when you pass them on the street.I don’t mean just any stranger but your own neighbours. They’d rather stare at the ground than look you in the face. That would never do in England where even strangers give you a smile.Except, perhaps in London.
I didn’t remember that Finland doesn’t take care of it’s own people. I would have needed help to settle in but as I’m not a foreigner, just a native citizen, I don’t get help at all, not financial, no support of any kind, not even a kind word. You can’t even get a blooming phone line until you’ve lived here for 2 years. You get treated like a criminal everywhere. There were practical everyday problems in England, too, but living in my own country has proved to be far more complicated and difficult than I expected. And I just wanted to come back home and relax.
Can’t wait to move back to England.
Thx 4 comment 😉
Actually you’re right but not everyone (shy, cold and…..) by the way most of them are the same,
of course the whole world is the same as here in Finland I mean the people, some are shy and others are very happy and talkative, in Finland people are also the same.
Of course every one want to live in own country and I want too…! I have never had been in own country, and I was born in another country and and I expect that until I get to live in my own country, where my parents were born. 😉
Tilly S,
I TOTALLY get what you mean!
I have practically been living almost my entire life here but I am still being treated as a freaking outcast. It’s really frustrating sometimes..
Argumentative essay: Good
I enjoyed your honest argument and style a lot! However, here are a few tips for the future! You don’t have to start your essay with “I think,” these are obviously your opinions so it is quite unnecessary 🙂 Also, don’t doubt your own opinion in the introductory paragraph. You could have discussed how some Finns make an exception in a completely different paragraph and then returned to your original opinion again.
Otherwise, the structure works and the ending is funny. The conjunction “anyway” comes off as slang, “all in all” might have worked better.
Summary: Good
This seems concise enough, although perhaps a little bit too colorful + you could have used your own words more often. I couldn’t find the original article anywhere although you had included some other great links 😦
Grammar: Satisfactory
–> countrIEs
–> Finns, Finnish, Finland ALL capitalized!
–> a FEAR of talking
Some sentences are almost incomprehensible, check your spelling! Reading and writing in English for practice also helps improve your skills!

Your text is short BUT powerful and your opinion shows up clearly. Though it’s the truth, Finns are shy and quiet compared to other nationality’s, I believe it’s not THAT bad as you described. We do have a lots of colorful people in here, we just consider twice before speaking 😉 But I like the example about student’s activity in class, poor teacher has to force us to open our mouths. I like the humor in this text. The grammar i believe is not all there, but the text is very understandable so thats all I see to be developed.
The summary points out the most important things about the article (still it could’ve been just a little more squeezed) which I thought is too a little too exacerbated. People in Finland eat daily very international food and only very old people need “absolute Finland” on there plates. But the article told everything about their plate and these kind of articles are always aggravated.
In the end it’s good to have these photo-inks to create some kind of image and picture about Finnish food. It really sums everything up, cos you know that one picture tells more than a thousand words.
